5 Tips for rhinoplasty recovery

The nose has a big impact on the shape and symmetry of the face, and this is one reason why people that are unhappy with the size or shape of their nose often opt to undergo rhinoplasty.  Achieving optimal results with rhinoplasty depends a lot on the recovery process, but there are tips that can help patients heal faster, and get the best possible results.

5 tips for rhinoplasty recovery

  1. Sleep with your head elevated

After rhinoplasty it’s best to sleep on your back with your head elevated, for at least one week.  Sleeping on your side can cause additional bruising and swelling, and prolong recovery.

  1. Get plenty of rest

It’s important to take enough time off so that you get adequate rest after rhinoplasty.    Patients typically need to take at least 7-10 days off work.

  1. Don’t blow your nose

It’s normal for the nose to be congested in the weeks following surgery.  However, patients are advised not to blow their nose for at least 6 weeks, as this can cause bleeding and delay healing.

  1. Avoid exercise

Exercise and strenuous activity should be avoided for at least 6 weeks after rhinoplasty.  Patients are also advised to avoid stretching, bending, and lifting during the first few weeks after surgery.

  • Eat a nutritious diet

Eating nutrient-dense foods and drinking plenty of water can help accelerate recovery after rhinoplasty.   Focusing on vitamin C rich foods is especially beneficial.

Above all, patients must follow the post-operative instructions of their plastic surgeon, in order to ensure optimal recovery after nose surgery.

What fillers are used for a liquid nose job?

If you want to change the appearance of your nose, you don’t necessarily have to resort to surgery to get the look you want, a liquid nose job may be all you need. The liquid nose job is gaining popularity because it is quick, easy, and virtually painless.

What is a liquid nose job?

A liquid nose job (non-surgical rhinoplasty) is a minimally invasive procedure in which dermal fillers are used to reshape the nose. It is a quick treatment that delivers dramatic results, and requires zero downtime.

A liquid nose job is usually done to even out the surface of the nose and cover-up imperfections such as a dorsal hump, or crooked bridge. It can also refine the tip of the nose.

What fillers are used for a liquid nose job?

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm are the fillers most often used to perform a liquid nose job. HA fillers are ideal for this procedure because they add volume to camouflage bumps and humps. In addition, if patients don’t like the results, an enzyme known as hyaluronidase can be injected into the nose to dissolve the filler.

How long do the results last?

The results of a liquid nose job are temporary, and can last anywhere from 6-12 months, depending on the type of filler used.

Are you a good candidate?

A liquid nose job is designed for men and women wanting to make minor changes to the appearance of their nose.

African American rhinoplasty: what it is and best candidates

Would you like to change the appearance of the nose you were born with? You’re not alone, because rhinoplasty or nose surgery is a very common procedure among men and women in the US, including African Americans.

What is African American Rhinoplasty?

African American rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that is done to alter the appearance of the nose, in people of African American descent. It typically involves narrowing the nostrils, or elevating the bridge of the nose. The goal of African American rhinoplasty is to create facial harmony and balance, while maintaining the patient’s unique ethnic features.

African American Rhinoplasty is a customized procedure that must be done based on the specific aspects of the patient’s face. Before performing African American rhinoplasty, the plastic surgeon will conduct a thorough evaluation of the patient’s nose, and discuss their aesthetic goals. Based on the foregoing, the surgeon will be able to determine the best way to alter the nose, so as to achieve facial harmony.

Patients wishing to undergo African American Rhinoplasty, should choose a plastic surgeon with the surgical skills and expertise to achieve a cosmetic result that improves the appearance of their nose, while maintaining ethnic consistency.

Who is a good candidate for African American rhinoplasty?

African Americans that are unhappy with the size or shape of their nose, but want to preserve their ethnic identity, may be good candidates for African American rhinoplasty. Candidates for African American rhinoplasty typically seek to refine a bulbous tip, or narrow a wide nasal base or wide bridge (click here to learn more).
