What Can PRP Be Used For

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is an innovative medical procedure that has now gone mainstream, due to its versatility as a regenerative treatment.   PRP utilizes the power of the body’s natural healing properties to treat a variety of health issues.  Butwhat can PRP be used for?

What Can PRP Be Used For

PRP is enriched with platelets that help the blood to clot.   The plateletsalso contain natural healing agents known as growth factors.  These growth factorscan accelerate healing and regenerate tissue in different areas of the body, including the joints, hair, and skin. The PRP injections used for treatment are prepared from the patient’s blood.

  • PRPfor Joint Pain and Discomfort.  When PRP is injected into the affected joints, the platelets target the damaged tissue and release growth factors that repair tissue and fast-track healing.  PRP therapy relieves the pain associated with joint disorder and improves joint mobility and function.
  • PRP for Hair Loss. PRP combats hair loss by stimulating inactive hair follicles.   A tiny needle is used to inject the PRP serum into the thinning areas of the scalp, and the growth factors regenerate the hair follicles.  PRP therapy alsoincreases hair growth and makes existing hair stronger and thicker.   It typically takes 3 sessions to achieve the desired results.
  • PRP For Skin Rejuvenation.  PRP can rejuvenate dull, tired-looking skin and restore a youthful, glowing complexion.  When PRP is applied to the skin it renews the skin cells and adds subtle volume.  PRP is often combined with microneedling to get more dramatic skin rejuvenation.

How Safe is Botox?

Botox is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the US, because each year millions of women and men opt to get botox to smooth away unwanted wrinkles.  Despite the popularity of botox, people are still concerned about possible health risks, so first-time users often ask – How safe is botox.

What is botox?

Botox is an injectable drug that is used to treat dynamic wrinkles.  It is a brand of botulinum toxin type A, which is a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum.

Botox injections temporarily block the release of chemical messengers from the nerves to the muscles, and this prevents the injected muscles from contracting.  As a result, the related wrinkles soften and this gives the face a refreshed, youthful appearance.

How Safe Is Botox

Botox was approved by the FDA in 2002 as an aesthetic treatment for crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines in adults.   Since then it has established itself as a safe, effective injectable treatment.

Although botulinum toxin can cause botulism (a type of food poisoning), botox is a highly diluted form of the toxin and is applied in small doses, so it is considered very safe.

Botox has a very impressive safety record and is safe in both the short and long term, when used in cosmetic dermatology.  Patients may experience mild swelling after botox injections, but few adverse side-effects have been reported.

In order to ensure safety, patients should only receive botox from a trained, qualified botox provider.

What is Coolsculpting?

Would you like to trim your waistline or lose that double chin?  CoolSculpting can contour these problem areas for you.  CoolSculpting has gained tremendous popularity in recent years because it provides measurable, lasting results. But what exactly is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting Fat Reduction

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction treatment that uses freezing technology known as cryolipolysis, to remove stubborn fat from specific areas of the body.  CoolSculpting selectively targets fat cells without harming the surrounding cells and skin.

The CoolSculpting applicator emits very low temperatures that freeze the fat cells and causes them to crystallize.  The fat cells ultimately die and are gradually broken down by the body in the following weeks.

What to expect after treatment?

After CoolSculpting, patients may experience temporary side-effects such as bruising, swelling, and tenderness, but these usually resolve within a few days.

The results of CoolSculpting are not immediate.  Some results can be seen about 2 weeks after treatment, but it may take 3-4 months to see the final results. CoolSculpting removes up to 25% of fat in the treated area.

What areas of the body can CoolSculpting treat?

CoolSculpting is FDA approved for treating the flanks, abdomen, double chin, back fat, bra fat, upper arms, thighs, and beneath the buttocks, which are areas that are typically resistant to diet and exercise.

Benefits of CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a completely non-surgical treatment that requires no anesthesia or incisions and has very little downtime.  Also, the results gained with CoolSculpting are long-lasting because the treated fat cells are removed from the body for good.

Can botox relieve the symptoms of TMJ

Are you experiencing jaw pain due to TMJ syndrome?  TMJ disorders can cause severe discomfort when left untreated.  Symptoms of TMJ can be eased using both surgical and non-surgical methods, and botox has recently been added as an alternative treatment.  But can botox relieve symptoms of TMJ.

What is TMJ

The temporomandibular joint or TMJ is the joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull.   TMJ disorders can develop as a result of a jaw injury, excessive teeth grinding, or wear and tear on the joint over time.

Symptoms of TMJ

Symptoms of TMJ include pain along the jawline, soreness and discomfort in the jaw, pain when chewing, severe headaches, and locking of the jaw joint.

Can botox relieve symptoms of TMJ

Botox is considered a safe, effective treatment for the recurring jaw discomfort associated with TMJ.  Botox is an outpatient procedure that takes approximately 30 minutes.

When botox is injected directly into specific facial muscles, it significantly reduces pain by limiting the contraction of the muscles.  As the muscles relax there is less clenching of the jaw and grinding of the teeth, but everyday actions such as chewing and speaking are not affected (learn more).

What to expect after botox for TMJ?

Swelling and bruising may occur after botox treatment, but usually resolve in a few hours.

When will I see results and how long does botox last?

Some patients notice an improvement in TMJ symptoms within 1-2 days of botox treatment, but relief can take up to one week.  Botox is a temporary solution for TMJ and typically lasts 3-4 months.  Once muscle function returns, additional treatments will be needed to ensure continued relief.

How does PRP therapy improve my skin?

PRP therapy is helping to revolutionize skin rejuvenation for both men and women.  It is a simple, natural process that uses the body’s own healing system to tackle cellular issues that contribute to the aging of the skin.  But how does PRP therapy improve your skin.

What is PRP Therapy?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a procedure in which platelets from the blood are used to promote tissue repair, and stimulate cell regeneration.

The plasma preparation is made by drawing a small amount of blood from the patient, which is spun in a centrifuge at high speed, to isolate the platelets.  The PRP is then injected into the patient’s skin.

How does PRP therapy improve the skin?

  • Enhances skin tone and texture

The growth of new skin cells tightens and firms the skin, thereby enhancing skin tone and texture.   PRP gets rid of discoloration and dullness, and reduces scars and blemishes.

  • Reduces wrinkles

PRP also stimulates the production of collagen, which is a vital protein that keeps the skin plump and hydrated.  Increasing collagen levels therefore reduces the appearance of wrinkles, and restores the youthful appearance of the skin.

  • Increases skin volume

PRP adds volume to the skin, so it’s an effective way to fill in sunken facial areas such as the cheeks, and below the eyes.

PRP therapy improves the health and quality of the skin because the platelets contain growth factors that nourish the skin, and encourage the regeneration of new cells.  PRP can be combined with microneedling for even greater skin rejuvenation benefits.

Can I get botox and fillers at the same time?

Would you like to refresh your face with non-surgical options like botox and fillers?  If yes, you are probably interested in finding out if you can get botox and fillers at the same time.

Botox and fillers are cosmetic injectables that are used for facial rejuvenation.   They are usually a good choice for people with less advanced signs of aging.

Can I get botox and fillers at the same time?

Yes, you can get botox and fillers at the same time.  Botox and dermal fillers are often combined in a single treatment, in order to achieve optimal facial rejuvenation results for the right candidate (click here to learn more).

Botox is typically used on the upper third of the face to treat dynamic wrinkles, which are the wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions i.e. frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet.   Botox is typically injected on the forehead and around the eyes, and corrects dynamic wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles.

Dermal fillers such as Juvéderm and Restylane are used to address static wrinkles that can be seen when the face is at rest.  This includes folds and wrinkles around the nose and mouth, especially nasolabial folds, and marionette lines.

Fillers can also be used to put back volume in areas of the face that have lost volume with age.  Fillers can augment sunken cheeks and contour the midface, and restore plumpness and definition to the lips.

Since botox and fillers target different areas of the face and focus on different aspects of aging, they can be administered at the same appointment.

How Much Does Botox Cost?

Are the frown lines and crow’s feet on your face getting you down?  Botox treatment is a wonderful way to rejuvenate your face and take years off your appearance.  But although botox may seem like a very attractive solution, you may be wondering – How much does botox cost.

Botox Cosmetic

Botox cosmetic has become a popular minimally invasive cosmetic treatment, because of its effectiveness in minimizing dynamic wrinkles and reducing signs of aging. Dynamic wrinkles are formed by repeated facial expressions such as frowning, squinting, and smiling, giving rise to frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.    Botox is an injectable treatment that contains very small amounts of purified bacteria.

How much does botox cost

Botox costs an average of $550 per treatment area.  However, the cost can range anywhere from $25 to $1,150, depending on the specific area being treated.

Practices price botox either by the treatment area or by the number of units patients receive.  A unit of botox can cost between $10 and $25.  The number of units used varies based on the area being treated (click here to learn more).

It takes an average of 20 units of botox to treat the forehead lines and frown lines, and about 15 units to treat crow’s feet.  However, the right amount of botox is customized for each patient, and other factors such as the strength of the facial muscles and the severity of the wrinkles, can impact the amount of botox required (read more).

The results of botox last approximately 3-5 months.

What is the best treatment for facial rejuvenation?

Would you like to refresh your look, but you’re hesitant to undergo surgery?  There are several non-surgical cosmetic treatments on the market that can rejuvenate your appearance, and give your face a nice healthy glow.  But what is the best treatment for facial rejuvenation.

What is the best treatment for facial rejuvenation?

The best facial rejuvenation treatment is one that will minimize the effects of aging and too much sun on the face, and restore the health and youthful appearance of the skin.  There are numerous facial rejuvenation techniques now available that deal with skin problems, and beautify the skin.  But what’s the best.

If your goal is to boost skin health and restore a more youthful look, microneedling is certainly an excellent choice.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling or collagen induction therapy is a minimally invasive technique in which a device containing small, thin, needles is used to create microscopic injuries in the skin.  These controlled wounds help to stimulate the production of collagen, which is undoubtedly the most effective way to revitalize the appearance of the skin.  Increasing collagen improves the firmness and elasticity of the skin, reduces sun damage, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation, and refines pores.

Microneedling with PRP

Microneedling is often combined with PRP therapy for optimal facial rejuvenation.  PRP is prepared from a sample of blood drawn from the patient, which is spun in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets.  These platelets are then applied to the face after microneedling.  PRP stimulates collagen, and accelerates the skin’s healing process (learn more).

Where are the Scars For a Facelift?

Would you like to look as young as you feel?  A facelift may be just what you need.  However, since facelift surgery is an invasive procedure there are incisions involved, so patients are typically worried about where the scars will be.

What is a facelift?

A facelift or rhytidectomy is a procedure that is done to rejuvenate the appearance of the face and neck.  It tightens sagging facial skin, reduces the appearance of lines and folds around the mouth, and minimizes jowls.

Where are the scars for a facelift?

The location of the scars for a facelift depends on the placement of the incisions.  The incisions for a traditional facelift are typically made behind the ear, in front of the ear, and along the hairline.   However, the surgeon may modify the incision pattern, based on the patient’s desired facial improvement.

Ideally, facelift incisions should follow the natural anatomy of the ear, so that the resulting scars are virtually imperceptible.  When facelift surgery is done properly it’s almost impossible to see the scars.

Factors that can affect the final outcome of the scar after a facelift include the patient’s skin type, the length of the incisions, and the skill of the surgeon.

Facelift consultation

If you are considering facelift surgery it’s important to discuss the location of the incisions early on, so that you know the type of scars to expect.  It is also essential to consult with an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon that understands the nuances of facelift incisions.
