Is Fat Grafting Better Than Fillers?

If you would like to reverse signs of facial aging, you may want to look into fat grafting and dermal fillers, as they are both effective options for reducing wrinkles, and restoring facial volume. But which treatment is better, and which is the right option for you? It really depends on your cosmetic goals.

Facial fat grafting

Facial fat grafting is a procedure in which the patient’s own fat is used to restore volume to areas such as the cheeks and lips. The fat used for the procedure is typically harvested from areas like the abdomen, flanks, and thighs. The fat cells are extracted using a gentle liposuction technique and then processed, before being injected into the targeted area.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid (HA) are the most popular option for facial rejuvenation. These fillers vary in consistency and chemical characteristics, based on the facial concern they are designed to target. HA fillers work by attracting and retaining water, which causes the skin to become plump and full.

Is fat grafting better than fillers

Fat grafting and fillers can both rejuvenate the face, but the best option for you will depend on your specific aesthetic goals.

If you would like to address deep wrinkles and folds, and only small areas of volume loss, dermal fillers may be appropriate. However, if the primary concern is loss of facial fullness, fat grafting would likely be the better choice for you.

Are you considering facial rejuvenation, but can’t decide between fat grafting and fillers. It’s best to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to help you make the best choice.

Is A Facelift Better Than Fillers?

When it comes to facial rejuvenation, a facelift is certainly the ‘gold standard,’ but non-surgical options like dermal fillers have now become mainstream. There are a wide variety of fillers on the market that can make your face smoother, and more youthful. But is a facelift better than fillers.

Is a facelift better than fillers?

Although fillers are a quick, non-invasive solution for early signs of aging, they cannot replace a facelift. A facelift is considered better than fillers for the following reasons:

  1. A facelift provides natural-looking facial rejuvenation results, when performed by an experienced board certified plastic surgeon. However, some patients look overdone after facial rejuvenation with fillers, because the fillers are often not administered correctly.
  2. There are limits to what can be accomplished with dermal fillers. Fillers can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and add volume to areas such as the cheeks and lips, but they do not address skin laxity. Therefore, if you have loose skin on the face and neck, a facelift is the ideal solution.
  3. Fillers are not necessarily cost effective, because follow-up treatments are needed throughout the year, to maintain the youthful appearance of the face. In contrast, the results of a facelift last an average of 10 years.

Which procedure is right for me?

If you have more dramatic signs of aging such as a sagging jawline and neck, a facelift would be right for you. On the other hand, if you are looking to reduce wrinkles and boost facial volume, fillers may be more appropriate. It’s best to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to find out for sure.

How Long Do the Results of an Ultherapy Procedure Last?

If the skin you knew when you were younger, is starting to slowly slip away, you can reverse the decline with a skin rejuvenation treatment like Ultherapy. Ultherapy uses cutting-edge technology to both tighten and lift the skin, for an overall more youthful appearance. The procedure does work, but how long do the results of an ultherapy procedure last?

What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is an FDA approved non-surgical skin tightening system that uses focused ultra-sound energy. The device is indicated for use on the eyebrow, neck, and below the chin. It can also be used to soften lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.Ultherapy is an effective cosmetic procedure that has been proven to improve skin tone and texture.

How doesit work?
The ultrasound wand delivers energy that accuratelytargets the dermal layer of the skin. The sonic waves heat up the deep tissue, without affecting the surrounding skin. The ultrasound energy creates a thermal effect which kick-starts the skin’s collagen production, and this helps to make the skin firmer as time passes.

Depending on the condition of your skin, you may require 1-2 treatments of Ultherapy.

How long do the results last?
Since Ultherapy helps to rebuild collagen, the effects will last for several months. There is usually minimal visible change in the first few days after treatment, but more improvements will be noticeable within 7-14 days, and will continue to improve for up to 12 months, or until collagen production slows. Doctors often recommend a follow up treatment after 12-18 months.

What is the best Dermal Filler for anti-aging?

Your face changes as you age, and some of those changes are not flattering, but there are cosmetic treatments that can help reverse them. Dermal fillers are one of the options people are using to beat aging and look younger. There are several fillers out there that can improve skin quality, but what is the best dermal filler for anti-aging.

Fillers for anti-aging
Dermal fillers or soft tissue fillers are injected into the skin to fill up lines and wrinkles, in addition to areas that have lost volume. They can also be used to plump up lips,so asto temporarily improve the overall appearance of facial features.

Most people who use fillers like the way they look after treatment. Their skin is smoother, tighter, and younger looking. When it comes to reversing the signs of aging, hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm are among the popular choices.

What is the best dermal filler for anti-aging
It all depends on the specific signs of aging you are trying to correct, and the outcome you want to create. That’s because different fillers are designed to work in different areas. Therefore if you need to add volume to the cheeks, Juvederm Voluma XC is often the recommended product. However, if you want to fill out nasolabial folds (smile lines), then Restylane is regularly used.

When dermal filler treatments are done well you still look like yourself, – just a few years younger. However, it takes a skilled injector who knows how much filler to use, and exactly where to place it, to achieve that goal.

Clients in Guilford, CT, can contact the Langdon Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery for dermal filler anti-aging treatment. Call 844-551-9880 today, and schedule an appointment with cosmetic surgeon Dr. Robert Langdon.

Laser fat reduction with the Venus Freeze

As the demand for non-invasive aesthetic treatments increases, new methods and technology are emerging for issues such as body fat. Laser fat reduction can be done more efficiently with advanced technology like the Venus Freeze. If you are looking for an anti-aging treatment that does not involve needles or pain, the Venus Freeze may be the right alternative for you.

What is the Venus Freeze?

The Venus Freeze is a non-invasive fat reduction and skin tightening solution that utilizes radiofrequency (RF) energy. It is a fast-working, comfortable procedure that works on all skin types, and can be used to contour the face and body. If you are looking to tighten your skin and gain modest fat reduction, the Venus Freeze would be a good option for you.

How does it work?

The device emits pulsed magnetic fields and RF energy deep into the skin tissue. This heats up the collagen fibers and stimulates new collagen, resulting in plumper, tighter skin.

There is no downtime after treatment, and you see the results right away. It generally takes multiple treatments, (about 6 to 8), to create long lasting results with Venus Freeze. Sessions are done once per week and last 15 to 40 minutes each time.

What to expect

The fat reduction effects of Venus Freeze lasts a long time, because once destroyed, the fat cells will not return. However, patients need to maintain a disciplined dietary program in order to avoid weight gain outside of the treatment zone.  After treatment there will be a noticeable improvement in skin elasticity and tightness, as well as  a reduction in fat deposits.

Venus Freeze treatments are available in Torrance, California at Awaken Aesthetics. Please give us a call at 310-791-2233, so that we can schedule a consultation for you with Dr. Alex Liu, board certified plastic surgeon (click here).

How long do results last from a Kybella treatment?

If you have a double chin and are looking for an alternative to surgery, ask your doctor about Kybella. Kybella is a non-invasive treatment for moderate to severe submental (under-chin) fat.  We know that with surgical options such as chin lipo the results are long term, but how long do results last from a Kybella treatment?

Kybella

Kybella is derived from deoxycholic acid, which is a substance produced naturally by the body that helps with the absorption of fat. Kybella is a unique treatment, as it is currently the only non-surgical option available for fat beneath the chin.

A Kybella injection session takes about 15-20 minutes, and may require up to 6 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart. The effects of Kybella are usually seen within 2 to 4 treatments, sometimes sooner.

Kybella Results

Kybella will reduce your double-chin, and improve the appearance of your neck and jawline. The results gained with Kybella are permanent, because the fat below your chin won’t return, and you can enjoy the permanent results of Kybella as long as you maintain a healthy weight (read more).

However, the contoured appearance of the neck may change if you gain a significant amount of weight. This could cause the fat cells that remain to get larger, and once again create some fullness in the chin.  But since there are fewer fat cells, the fat will be proportionately less than you had before.

Contact Cobb Wellness and Aesthetics, Roswell, GA, to learn more about this amazing solution for your double chin. Call (770) 649-0094 today and book your appointment with Linda Kelley, MD. Dr. Kelley would be happy to meet with you to discuss Kybella, and determine if it would be a good fit for you.

Cartilage and Joint Restoration techniques used to prevent degeneration caused by the aging process

As they age, many people suffer from degenerative joint disease or osteoarthritis, a condition that is characterized by inflammation and pain. The disease was once thought to be progressive and incurable. But cartilage and joint restoration is now being undertaken by some orthopedic surgeons, in order to prevent the degeneration caused by the aging process. This is really good news for those with aging joints.

Joints and aging
Joints are protected by cartilage, which is spongy connective tissue located at the end of the bones. Cartilage is comprised of chondrocytes (cells that help with lubrication), proteoglycans, lipids, and collagen.  However as time passes, the cartilage degenerates due to the constant motion that takes place. As a result of the deterioration of the cartilage, the joints become susceptible to pain and injury.

Dr. Frank McCormick, who operates out of South Florida, specializes in treatments that are meant to facilitate the restoration of cartilage and joints. Some of the options offered by Dr. McCormick to prevent the degeneration of cartilage and joints include:

  • Microfracture – This is a procedure that repairs the injured joint by using stem cells to stimulate the growth of new cartilage.
  • Stem cell implantation – Involves the growth of stem cells in the lab. The stem cells are then implanted in the joint to repair the damage.
  • Cartilage Transplant – replacing the patient’s cartilage with the cartilage of a donor.
  • Outpatient Surgery – This type of surgery reduces recovery time, and gives patients the chance to start physical therapy immediately.

If you are interested in learning more about these techniques for cartilage and joint restoration, you can contact Dr. McCormick at 1-866-956-3837. He has offices in Miami, Orlando, Doral, and Palm Beach.
