New cosmetic injectables are hitting the market every year, and the demand continues to grow, as more and more people seek to counteract the aging effect. Juvederm Volbella is one of the newest formulations, and is specially made to give you the full, shapely lips you’ve always desired. But what is it made of, and is Volbella safe?
Volbella is aversatile hyaluronic acid fillerthat is formulated using a modified cross-linking technology that slows the breakdown process. Unlike similar cosmetic fillers that last 6-9 months, Volbella lasts for 12 months, and longer in some cases.
Volbella is approved by the FDA for use in lip augmentation, and to correct perioral lines. Perioral lines are the fine lines around the mouth that are normally caused by aging, but may also be due to smoking or sun exposure.
Is Volbella safe?
Volbella is derived from hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that is naturally found in the tissues of the body. It is a product that can be broken down by the body without any harmful side-effects.
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers such as Restylane and Perlane have been on the market since early 2000’s and to date, there have been no detrimental effects reported from long term use.
However, if a problem should occurwith Volbella, or if too much filler is injected, the protein enzyme hyaluronidase can be injected to dissolve it.
Several clinical trials were conducted to determine the safety and effectiveness of Volbella, before it was approved by the FDA.Participants only experienced mild side-effects such as tenderness, swelling, and bruising, and these generally resolved within a few days.
Volbella injectable treatment is available in Pewaukee, WI, as Wisconsin Vein Center and MediSpa.
