When it comes to facial rejuvenation, a facelift is certainly the ‘gold standard,’ but non-surgical options like dermal fillers have now become mainstream. There are a wide variety of fillers on the market that can make your face smoother, and more youthful. But is a facelift better than fillers.
Is a facelift better than fillers?
Although fillers are a quick, non-invasive solution for early signs of aging, they cannot replace a facelift. A facelift is considered better than fillers for the following reasons:
- A facelift provides natural-looking facial rejuvenation results, when performed by an experienced board certified plastic surgeon. However, some patients look overdone after facial rejuvenation with fillers, because the fillers are often not administered correctly.
- There are limits to what can be accomplished with dermal fillers. Fillers can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and add volume to areas such as the cheeks and lips, but they do not address skin laxity. Therefore, if you have loose skin on the face and neck, a facelift is the ideal solution.
- Fillers are not necessarily cost effective, because follow-up treatments are needed throughout the year, to maintain the youthful appearance of the face. In contrast, the results of a facelift last an average of 10 years.
Which procedure is right for me?
If you have more dramatic signs of aging such as a sagging jawline and neck, a facelift would be right for you. On the other hand, if you are looking to reduce wrinkles and boost facial volume, fillers may be more appropriate. It’s best to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to find out for sure.
