What is the difference between Botox, Dysport and Xeomin?

If you are looking for an effective treatment for dynamic wrinkles, botox, dysport, and xeomin are all great options.  While botox is the most popular choice, dysport and xeomin have increased in popularity in recent years.  But what is the difference between botox, dysport, and xeomin.

Botox, dysport, and xeomin

Botox, dysport, and xeomin are neurotoxins that are used to treat dynamic wrinkles i.e. forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines.  Dynamic wrinkles are expression lines that form as a result of the frequent movement of the facial muscles during expressions such as laughing, smiling, and squinting.

How do they work?

Botox, dysport, and xeomin work by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles to form.  When they are injected into the specific facial muscle they block the transmission of nerve signals, which prevents the muscles from contracting.  As a result, the overlying wrinkles soften over time.

What is the Difference between botox, dysport, and xeomin?

Botox, dysport, and xeomin are all different brands of botulinum toxin type A.  Botox and dysport contain additives, so patients can potentially develop antibodies to them, which can prevent them from having the desired effect.  However, this is not a problem with xeomin as it does not contain any additives.

Since botox and dysport have additives they have to be refrigerated before use, but xeomin does not require refrigeration.

Xeomin takes effect after about 4 days, but botox and dysport have an earlier onset of action.
