What Type Of Gum Treatments Are Available?

If you have gum disease, it’s important to follow through with treatment because it can lead to tooth loss and other health issues if left untreated.  So what type of gum treatments are available?

What Is Gum Disease?

Gum disease also called periodontitis, is a bacterial infection of the gum which is typically caused by a build-up of plaque around the tooth.  It can damage both the gum tissue and the bone supporting the tooth.  Signs of gum disease include receding gums, bleeding when brushing or flossing, and bone loss.

What Type Of Gum Treatments Are Available?

Two of the most common treatments for gum disease are LANAP Laser Bone Regeneration and Pinhole Gum Lifting.

  • LANAP Laser Bone Regeneration is a minimally invasive treatment that is used to regenerate gum tissue and bone.  During treatment, a laser is used to remove the build-up of tartar and bacteria on the teeth and beneath the gums.  The laser kills the bacteria and removes damaged tissue between the teeth and gums.  It also promotes bone and tissue regeneration.
  • Pinhole Gum Lifting is an effective treatment for gum recession.  It is a non-invasive procedure in which a needle is used to make a tiny hole in the gum tissue.  A precision instrument is then used to shift the gum tissue into a healthy position to provide better support for the teeth.  Once the gum is lifted to the desired location, collagen strips are placed inside to promote collagen production and stabilize the gums.  Visible results can be seen in as little as 24 hours.
